Doorbraak PXL

1 / 13

The current infrastructure of the PXL campus at Elfde Linie, Hasselt, is characterized by car-oriented shared spaces and aging buildings. During an intensive collaboration with the facility management and multiple stakeholders, we translated the school’s ambitions into a sustainable spatial vision for 2050 and beyond.

The school’s position in the urban and landscape structure allows for new connections, becoming an important node in regional structures. We started from a threefold ambition: turning the school into an environment for lifelong learning, making it accessible for different modes of transport and user groups and making its infrastructure future-proof and sustainable. Four spatial figures and four programmatic concepts were defined to translate these ambitions into feasible projects.

Together with IDEA Consult, and through intense dialogue with the school’s students and teaching staff, a development scenario took shape, that can be developed step by step. First step is the extension and renovation of a modernist school building, realizing a large multifunctional space where students and entrepreneurs can meet and exchange.
